Travelling to the UK for surgery
If you are planning a trip to the UK for surgery then please let us know so we can help you plan your consultation, treatment and immediate post-op appointments in advance. It is advisable to pre-book all the required appointments as Mr Stevens’ diary gets very busy and we may not be able to accommodate you with your travel plans at short notice.
Planning your trip
If possible please contact the office by telephone +44 (0)207 251 4835 to arrange your appointments as this is the easiest way to discuss dates available. It is helpful to have more than one set of dates in mind when you contact us. Below are the days we normally offer appointments:
For laser refractive surgery
Initial assessments: Mondays, Tuesday mornings and some Thursdays (when available)
Laser treatment: Wednesday and Friday during the day
Immediate post-op check for IntraLASIK: the day after treatment,
Immediate post-op check for Excimer Surface Treatment / LASEK: 5 or 6 days after treatment the following Monday or Thursday
For cataract / lens surgery
Initial assessments: Mondays or Tuesday morning
Surgery: Wednesday and Friday during the day
If the eyes are being treated separately, you will need two surgery dates which are usually at least one week apart due to COVID testing requirements.
Immediate post-op check: The next day and normally 1 – 4 weeks after surgery. Please discuss follow-up appointments when you call.
For cross-linking
Initial assessments: Mondays
Cross-linking treatment: Wednesday and Friday during the day
Immediate post-op check: 1 to 6 days after treatment)
Follow-up appointments
Immediate post-op check
You must attend for a follow-up appointment before you leave the country. If it is difficult to accommodate this into your travel schedule then please let us know as we may be able to offer some flexibility with follow-up dates.
Long term aftercare
Longer term follow-up and aftercare will be discussed when you attend the clinic.
Travelling after surgery
Flying after treatment
There are no restrictions on flying as a passenger after treatment. However you must have a check-up in our outpatient clinic before you leave the country. For pilots, the necessary flying licensing needs to be completed before flying resumes.
Medications
The medications you will be given after surgery are all under 100ml so you can take these in your hand luggage.
Medical reports
We can provide you with a medical report which you can give to your local medical officer if necessary. Please let us know if you require a copy of your medical report.
